Build It! A Reflective STEM Construction Activity

$5.00

A growing Canva template pack for K–12 classrooms

(This download comes with a PDF with Canva Template Links (keep them in your Canva account and edit to your hearts content) as well as an MP4 file of the spinning wheel)

Build It! is a hands-on, rotating STEM activity that gets students out of their seats, thinking deeply, and building their answers — literally. Using a spinning wheel and linked Canva slides, students are prompted with a reflective question and must construct a physical representation of their answer using classroom manipulatives and materials.

No two builds look the same, and that's exactly the point.

What's included (currently):

  • 4 themed Canva slide templates

  • A spinning wheel slide (usable on its own for any classroom activity)

  • Hyperlinked question slides — spin the wheel, click the number, and the class is taken directly to that prompt

Themes available now:

  • Getting to Know You

  • End of Year

  • Earth Day

  • (more being added regularly!)

How it works:

  1. Spin — A student spins the wheel on the main slide

  2. Click — The corresponding number is clicked and the class is taken to that question slide

  3. Build — Students use manipulatives or materials at their station to construct something that represents their answer

  4. Share — Students share their creation through a gallery walk, stand up/hand up/pair up, or a quick whole-class share out

Station rotation tips: Set up different stations around the room, each with different materials — blocks, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, playdough, cards, linking cubes, whatever you have. Tables rotate between rounds so every student gets to work with different materials. This keeps energy high and adds a fun creative constraint — you have to answer the question with whatever's in front of you!

Sharing options:

  • Gallery walk — students walk around, view each other's builds, and write on whiteboards to explain what they think each creation represents

  • Stand up, hand up, pair up — students find a partner and explain their build in 30 seconds

  • Whole class share out — each student or group gets a moment to present

Works for all grade levels. Questions are open-ended and personal, so a kindergartener and a high schooler can answer the same prompt in completely different ways. The building challenge scales naturally with age and materials.

Grows with you. This is an ever-expanding pack — new themes and slide sets are added regularly. Purchase once and get all future updates.
